Green Racing celebrates its first anniversary at 2009 Petit Le Mans
Sports cars competing in the upcoming Petit Le Mans endurance race on September 26, 2009, will be traveling 1,000 miles over ten hours, but for Green Racing the most important number will be one – one year since cars began competing to race the fastest while leaving the smallest environmental footprint.
Introduced at the October 2008 Petit Le Mans at the Road Atlanta course in Braselton, GA, the Green Challenge has become a regular feature of the 2009 American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Manufacturers and teams have been racing to win by minimizing the energy and petroleum used and greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted by their sports cars to achieve the best score and win the Green Challenge, which was designed by the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and SAE International.
