Motorsports on Main: Treat for Adults and Children Alike

September 22, 2011

Adults, kids and race enthusiasts attended the second annual Motorsports on Main event in downtown Greenville, SC.  On September 22nd local driving traffic on picturesque Main Street was replaced with race car displays and activities.   The event created a stage of options for fans to enjoy a free, sneak peak at the sports cars from the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) one week before the closing of the ALMS season and top international race: Road Atlanta’s Petit Le Mans.  The sneak peak included car displays from Corvette Racing, BMW Team RLL, Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing, TRG, Panoz Team PTG, Robertson Racing and Flying Lizard Motorsports.

Not long after taking their first steps under the giant Michelin archway, Motorsports on Main guest’s arms were quickly filled with autographed hero cards, posters, Muscle Milk samples, Corvette t-shirts, Michelin flags, balloons and more.

Driver autographs, team merchandise, children’s crafts, activities and photo opportunities with Bibendum, the Michelin man, rounded out the repertoire of things to do at the festive event.  Teams and partners of the ALMS participating included TV personality Calvin Fish, who interviewed the ALMS drivers including Gunnar Jeannette, Guy Cosmo, Tommy Milner, Bill Auberlen, Spencer Pumpelly, Jon Bennett and Andrea Robertson.

The event also served as a host for many school field trips.   The youngsters were able to see the displays and drive the racing simulators.  The Green Racing team had a unique opportunity to meet with the students and talk about the program and answer questions.

The Green Racing simulator was a popular area around the event.  The stakes were set high when Tommy Milner from Corvette Racing placed an outstanding Green Racing score.  For the remainder of the day–long event guests tried to match Milner’s time and Green Racing score. One patron came within two hundredths of second, but Milner’s score on the leaderboard win was unmatched.   The simulator displayed great fan support with at least twenty deep until the event closed – which meant increased camaraderie with the riders waiting for their turn.
