Muscle Milk, Corvette Racing Win Michelin Green X Challenge at Road America

August 22, 2011

Muscle Milk Team Cytosport and Corvette Racing were victorious in the Michelin Green X Challenge in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race at the Time-Warner Cable Road Race Showcase at Road America August 19-20, 2011. Team Cytosport Aston Martin also won the overall race for the third time in a row.

The Muscle Milk Team Cytosport Lola Aston Martin (Car 6) won its fifth straight Michelin Green X Challenge (MGXC) trophy over the Dyson Racing Lola Mazda (Car 16). Car 6 earned the best scores of all three factors for clean, fast, and efficient. Car 6 led most of the laps after the first pit stops to complete the race at a speed of 176.21 kph, just slightly ahead of Car 16 at 174.86 kph. Car 6 also maintained a lower overall energy consumption of 17.02 MJ/km vs. 21.77 MJ/km for Car 16, especially impressive given the 50 kg extra mass of Car 6. Similarly, its use of E85 plus its 22% lower energy consumption led to its win in the clean scoring factor.

Corvette Racing’s Car 4 won the MGXC for the GT category for the third time in a row this year, a scant 0.4 points ahead of BMW Team RLL (Car 56) and 1.4 points ahead of Risi Competizione (Car 62). In the GT category all but one of the cars that finished the race used E85 – giving them all strong clean scores. Although Car 4 placed third for speed, with BMW in first and Risi Competizione in second, Corvette Racing won the MGXC due to its impressive energy consumption results. Corvette’s Car 4 earned efficiency ratings of 8.54 MJ/km, compared to BMW’s. 8.82 MJ/km for Car 56 and Risi Competizione’s 9.33 MJ/km for Car 62.

The Road America Road Race Showcase saw a significant 48% of oil replaced by renewable fuels in the Prototype and GT categories compared to traditional all-petroleum racing fuel on a well-to-wheels basis – a new ALMS record.
